詳細情報Information

Yoshino sugi is Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) which is grown in Yoshino, and it is one of the most prestigious woods of Japan. Yoshino is in the central area of Nara Prefecture (mainly in Kawakami Village, Higashi-yoshino Village, and Kurotaki Village). The unique technique for growing the wood is characterized by dense planting, frequent thinning, and long felling period. The wood with a beautiful color deep red/brown has few knots.
The mix of heartwood and softwood (“genpei” in Japanese), shows a beautiful and lusty contrast of deep red/brown color of heartwood and bright white/cream color of softwood.
Especially a quarter sawn board with a few small knots shows a natural flow of the straight grain around small live knots, which emphasizes the natural appearance of wood.
